Who do you think about when you think about a leader? Maybe it’s your mom or dad, or a teacher that helps you figure out difficult problems. Leaders come in all shapes and sizes and can be anyone at the right time, but they all have some qualities that they share that make them a good leader for you and other people.
What Are Some Qualities of a Leader?
Can you think of some qualities that leaders like teachers and the president have? Leaders have a positive attitude. They say “yes I can” instead of asking if they can. They believe in themselves and that’s an important quality to have as a leader. People that believe in themselves trust that they have what it takes when something tough happens. Thinking positively means they don’t question themselves and they get the job done, no matter what it takes.
Leaders know how to persevere. Perseverance means that you keep working no matter how hard the task seems. People who persevere often have to do so under frightening or frustrating circumstances. They keep going because they know they have to get through it, and once they do things will seem or be better than their current circumstances. They have faith that things will get better and it helps them to get through their problems.
Leaders also solve problems instead of making them. Sometimes a situation might seem so frustrating that all we can do is focus on the problem instead of how we can fix it. Leaders ask questions like “How can I fix this?” and “What can I do to make this better?” instead of getting stuck on how hard a problem seems. As a leader you don’t always have to have an answer to those questions, but you do have to refuse to give up trying to find that answer. Be a problem solver instead of a problem maker.
Always Do Your Best!
Being a leader isn’t always easy, but no matter what, good leaders always try to do their best. Even when the situation is hard or very frustrating, leaders don’t give up, and they always give 110% to make sure the job gets done the best way they know how.
It’s easy to not give your best effort. A lot of people do it. Have you ever not studied for a test and gotten a ‘B’ instead of an A+? When we don’t give our best, it doesn’t necessarily mean we’ve failed, but it means we didn’t work the best we could have. To be a leader, you need to always try to do the best you can. If you do your best all the time, you can’t ask anything more of yourself, so whether you win or lose at something, you’ve done a good job!
You Can Be A Leader
Anyone can be a leader. The things that make teachers and parents leaders isn’t just that they’re older and know more but that they’ve also learned how to have a positive attitude, persevere and always do their best job no matter what the circumstances are. In order to be a leader, you have to keep your chin up, your eyes forward and always do your best.
